Government

Cumberland Christian Academy is an independent institution for learning, not subordinate to any one particular church or denomination.

CCA is established on the basic tenet of cooperation with Christians of all denominations. It is supervised by a duly elected board of directors. The board of directors has nine chairs; each member has one vote on any given issue or procedure. All meetings are open to all the families and supporters of this Academy at all times---EXCEPT in a circumstance which may have necessitated personal and private investigation of individual character. Non-involved parties are expected to abide by accepted Biblical principles in such a case.

Faculty and Staff

Each member of the faculty and staff of Cumberland Christian Academy is a BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN, committed to the basic fundamentals of the Christian faith and the education of all students enrolled in the Academy.

No member of the faculty or staff is authorized at any time to impose his or her non-essential beliefs upon the students. Strict adherence to the Biblical basics, and confinement within them, is required of the faculty and staff. Their longevity as members of the faculty or staff can be affected by proven violations of this tenet.

It is the declared purpose of CCA to educate its students, adhere to academic discipline, and promote basic moral excellence--not to engage in doctrinal conflict.

Admissions Policy

All prospective parents must interview with an administrator/principal. Students must be in attendance if entering grades 6-12.

Application forms must be completed, accompanied by a $100.00 non-refundable application fee and returned to the administrative offices.

Testing/Placement--For Kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before October 1st. Each student entering 1st through 6th grade may be required to take the CCA entrance test. Each student entering 7th through 12th grade must show by testing and prior grade completion that he/she is capable of doing grade level work. If your child does not have recent test results, CCA will offer testing once a month.

Upon acceptance, an additional $350.00 matriculation fee will be due. The non-refundable matriculation fee includes the following per student: student insurance, testing fees, an individual picture package, class picture, yearbook, sport fees, student pass to all home athletic events, graduation fee, art fee, basic supply fee, and use of consumable and non-consumable books.

A copy of the child’s immunization record showing compliance with state law must be turned in by the first day of school.

All admissions and campus placement are contingent upon available space and are ultimately subject to the Headmaster’s approval.

Cumberland was formed to offer a Christ-centered education to students who are average and above average academically. We are not equipped to serve those with special needs. New enrollment at Cumberland Christian Academy continues to increase each school year. We give God the glory for our continued growth! Due to the number of new students enrolling each term, we cannot make any guarantee of classroom location. We are continually discussing facility locations and campus options to house our ever-increasing student body.

Non-Discriminatory Policy

The Cumberland Christian Academy gladly admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship, athletic, or other school-administered programs. CCA fellowships in Christian love with all who choose to walk with her.

Christian Arbitration Policy

Realizing that Cumberland Christian Academy seeks to work with all students and families based on covenant relationship according to Biblical concepts, we pledge to resolve any and all conflicts which might arise according to Biblical principles. Should an issue arise which cannot be resolved after prayer, appeals, and long-suffering patience, we pledge and promise to use Christian arbitration rather than court action to achieve resolution. All families who enroll children in Cumberland must agree with the school on this policy.

School Hours

K3-K4 8:15 AM - 12:15 PM
K5 8:15 AM - 2:45 PM
Elementary (1st-5th) 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Middle School (6th-8th) 8:05 AM - 3:05 PM
High School (9th-12th) 8:10 AM - 3:15 PM

Attendance

The school calendar is made up of 180 days. 1st - 12th grades have 4 nine-week grading periods of approximately 45 days each. K3 - K5 attend 175 days.

A student’s presence in school is the responsibility of both parent(s) and student. Any excessive absences not due to sickness is indication of a parental problem. A student is allowed a 30 day maximum of excused absences within each school year. Absences exceeding 30 days may cause dismissal from school, not entering the next school term, or graduation denial. Any appeal to change this policy must be made before the CCA Board. An excused absence is validated by a parental or physician’s note to the office required the day the student returns to school.

If a student comes to school after 11:15 AM or leaves before 11:15 AM, he is counted absent.

High school juniors and seniors may be counted present for up to 3 days to visit colleges.

High school attendance applies to each scheduled period. A student will receive an "F" for the semester in any class that is missed more than 15 days during that semester. Any appeals must be made to the CCA Board.

Any student who is absent from school on a given day may not participate in any extra curricular activities for that day.

Arrival

Students may arrive as early as 7:15 AM at each campus and should report to the designated area for early arrivals where a faculty member will supervise a study hall.

Late Arrival

A student who arrives after school begins should report to the office. There he will sign in and receive a tardy slip that will admit him to class.

Tardies will be excused for the following reasons:

Medical appointment - The student must bring a note from the physician which verifies that the student was seen by the doctor. The note must be presented NO LATER than the next school day after the appointment.
Personal illness - The student must bring a note from the parent to verify that the parent was aware of the illness and gave the student permission to come to school late. The note must be presented NO LATER than the next school day after the student was tardy.
Students who arrive late for any other reason must bring a note from a parent explaining the reason for the tardiness. This note must be delivered NO LATER than the next school day after the student was tardy.

Departures

Parents are expected to make arrangements for the pick-up of their students immediately after school dismisses.

Parents of students in grades K-3 through 8th will be required to fill out a pick-up authorization form to be kept on file in each school office.

Grade
MUST be picked up

K-3/K-4 by 12:30 PM
K-5 by 3:00 PM
1st - 5th by 3:30 PM
6th - 8th by 3:30 PM
9th - 12th

by 3:30 PM

ANY PARENT WHO DOES NOT PICK UP THEIR CHILD BY REQUIRED TIMES WILL BE CHARGED A FEE OF $5.00 PER HALF HOUR OR ANY PORTION THEREOF. If not paid, this amount will be forwarded to our accounting office to be added to your tuition account.

Early Departures

If a student is to leave school early, a parental-signed note must be sent to the school office, and the office has the responsibility of informing the student’s teacher. A parent picking up a student must first sign out the student at the school office. The office personnel will then summon the student.

Inclement Weather Policy

CCA follows the Cobb County school closings in case of severe weather. Check your local TV and radio stations for closings.

Sickness / Medicine

For health reasons, a child should not come to school with a fever or any other condition that is considered contagious.

Students should be fever-free (temperature below 100 degrees) for 24 hours before returning to school. Students should also be free of diarrhea and vomiting.

All medicine for a student must be taken to and kept in the school office (please document dosage requirements). The office will only dispense medicine brought from home and only upon written consent from the parents.

School Office

The school office is designed to take care of official school business. While parents may leave lunches, homework, books and other items in the office for their children, this service should be used sparingly. Students are to stay outside the office boundaries.

Telephone Use / Messages

School telephones are primarily for school related business. Students may use school telephones only with permission from school personnel and not for making arrangements for after-school activities unless school related. The school cannot take or deliver personal messages for students, with the exception of special circumstances (e.g.: change in transportation, medical appointment or work schedule).

Staff Contact

Faculty members are not always available because of their teaching responsibilities. To contact a staff member during the day, call the school office and leave a message. Please refrain from calling faculty members at home unless an emergency arises.

Visitors to School

Please feel free to consult with the office about any problem or question that concerns the welfare of the students. It is the desire of the Principal, their assistants, and the faculty to be of service to both parent and student. Teachers welcome visits from any parent. We do urge, however, that such visits be made by definite appointment with the teacher at a convenient after school hour.

The principal’s permission is required for anyone to visit a CCA student on campus.

Middle and High School Lockers

Middle and high school students have access to personal lockers. Students may obtain a lock for their locker. The combination to the lock or an extra key should be left with the school secretary. The school does have the authority to check lockers at any time. The lockers are the property of the school and are to be used only in ways supportive of school goals and policies. Any misuse of lockers or use of non-registered locks will result in loss of locker privileges. Locker decorations must be easily removable and maintain a Christian standard.

Student Travel Policy

Permission slips are required for students to travel under the school’s supervision, whether the trip be curricular or extracurricular. The student must return with the school group unless the student’s parent is in attendance on the trip.

Parent Teacher Fellowship

We encourage all parents to attend the regularly scheduled PTF meetings. This is a wonderful way to maintain contact with the teachers and learn about school activities. The scheduled dates and times are located in the school calendar in this handbook.

Holiday Observances

CCA chooses not to celebrate Halloween. Our Christmas observance will focus on the birth of JESUS rather than Santa Claus.
