Blessings and Challenges

May is always an eventful month here at Cumberland. Each year as we draw near the end of the term, we have many special events, many challenges, and much to pray about. This year is no exception.

First, we have much to rejoice about. The praise cards are coming in. Laura Thurman (Class of '95) is graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Medical College of Georgia this month as an occupational therapist, and Tabitha Martinez Randol (Class of '93) has just been accepted to medical school to study to become a physician. Our Cumberland girls are shining! Many other CCA graduates are reporting similar victories. For them all we rejoice. You can tell much about a school by looking at her graduates.

On June 2, our 2000 graduating class will be the largest to date with twenty-one seniors receiving their diplomas. They have worked hard, and their day of victory is at hand. If you want to be a part of an inspiring and challenging graduation program, come to Orange Hill Baptist Church on June 2 at 7:00 PM. Your cup will be filled.

On the more somber side, we have received the resignation letter of Mrs. Jo Ann Watson, one of our principals. Jo Ann will leave her Westside post to become a full-time homemaker. We love her, will miss her, and hate to see her leave. Our joy is that she has served with us for eight good years. The challenge now is to find someone who will rise up to take her place.

Other challenges relate to our board-approved plan to extend our kindergarten and middle school. Thus, I would encourage parents who love and appreciate Cumberland to pray for us and to pass the word related to these growth opportunities. We will expand as God sends the students, teachers, and resources necessary to make these dreams reality.

Cumberland is still dynamically alive and changing as we grow in grace, in number, and in quality. We are blessed. Cumberland is also challenged daily to stand against the world's pressures to conform our students to worldly standards. We always need your prayers, your loyal support, and your honest councel. We have come this far in Christ Jesus, let us press on with praise and joy in our hearts as faithful servants of our Lord.
