John 14:1-3, 6 - Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also . . . Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me."

Soccer, jokes, horses (Joe, Star, and his own horse, Cocoa), and John 14:6 are just a few of the things that we will remember about Eric Kuemmel, one of our fifth grade students who went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 20, 2004.

A personal story will relate to you how I know John 14:6 to be Eric's favorite Bible verse. We were singing a song in chapel one day and I asked the students what Scripture verse that the song came from. I had several wrong answers before Eric told me the correct reference of John 14:6. I told him that I had something for him later. When I gave Eric his prize, I commented that I was proud of him for knowing the Scripture reference. Eric replied that it was no problem as it was his favorite verse.

As I relate the John 14 Scripture passage to you, I experience a sense of comfort. We are encouraged to release our troubles and to rest in God. Christ reassures us that we have a place to live when we leave this world. Eric is dwelling in the mansion that Christ is talking about in this passage. We know this to be true because Eric was a Christian, having accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, and that he was clinging to the truth that Jesus Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life".

Please continue to remember his family, parents Randy and Beverly Kuemmel, brother A.J., and grandparents (especially Grandad C.L.), in your prayers.
