Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program
Founded on 1 Dec 1941, one of the earliest duties of Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was to aid in the defense of our coastline during World War II. Since then, Congress has officially established CAP with three primary missions: aerospace education, cadet programs and emergency services. Today, CAP supports these missions in all of their many facets, including Homeland Security, Disaster Relief and other duties as assigned by the Air Force or the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Today, the Civil Air Patrol is officially a part of the Total Air Force – Active, Reserves, National Guard and Civil Air Patrol.
The cadet program at CCA is the Bravo Flight of the Marietta Air Museum Cadet Squadron—GA454. The CCA program meets every Tuesday afternoon immediately after classes end at the middle school campus. As a cadet in this squadron, you will have the opportunity to participate in all three missions of CAP through regular meetings at CCA, meetings at the main squadron location during weeks when school is not in session, and during special activities that the squadron provides. This can include up to five Orientation Flights in Cessna aircraft and five Orientation Flights in gliders, as well as field trips to the Hampton Air Route Traffic Control Center, the McCollum Tower or Lockheed's Wind Tunnel. Additionally, you may qualify for special nationwide Cadet Special Activities such as working the largest air show in the United States at Blue Beret in Oshkosh, WI, or visiting foreign nations through the International Air Cadet Exchange Program. And if you like helping people in distress, you can train toward becoming a Ground Team Member, searching for small aircraft that crash in the state of Georgia. This can include our annual cold-weather, mountainous-terrain exercise held each year in February aptly named FROSTBITE which is held on the same mountains that the US Army Rangers train. If hiking isn’t your major interest, you can still participate in Emergency Services as a Mission Radio Operator, Communications Unit Leader or Mission Staff Assistant. Marietta Air Museum Cadet Squadron is the only squadron in Georgia with three fully trained Communications Unit Leaders, one of which is a cadet – one of only 16 qualified cadet CULs in the nation.
CAP has much to offer anyone who is interested in helping people, becoming a leader, advancing toward an aviation related career or entering the military at some point.
