Dr. Larry F. Kendrick
Headmaster Emeritus, Board Member
In 1989 Larry Kendrick helped establish Cumberland Christian Academy and became its first Headmaster. Larry holds an Associate of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Science degree, and a Master of Education degree. He was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity in 2007 from Liberty University.
He and his wife of 45 years, Rhonwyn, have three sons and fifteen grandchildren. His youngest son, Stephen, is a 1992 graduate of CCA. All of their sons are active in various church ministries including production of Christian films such as Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous. Larry and Rhonwyn are members of Roswell Street Baptist Church.
Dr. Lee Campbell
Headmaster, Board Member
Dr. Lee Campbell serves as Headmaster. Lee holds a BBA in Management with a minor in Economics, a Master of Arts in Ministry, as well as EdS and EdD degrees in Educational Leadership. Lee brings experience in business, ministry, and Christian education to Cumberland Christian Academy.
He has three children at CCA. His wife, Sherry, serves as School Counselor. Lee enjoys boating, hiking, camping, and other outdoor family centered activities.
His philosophy is that the true wisdom found only in Jesus Christ should be at the center of every student’s education.
Dr. Mark Ohliger
Director of Operations
Mark Ohliger serves CCA as our Business Administrator out of a desire to help develop a school where students can learn the truth of God and the world He created. Growing up here in Marietta, he graduated from John McEachern High School and attended Kennesaw State University where he received a BBA in Accounting. He holds a Juris Doctorate and has been a member of the Georgia Bar Association since 1996. Mark has previously worked as a trust accountant and as a business administrator.
Mark and his wife, Susan, have one daughter, Grace. He is a longtime member of Roswell Street Baptist Church where he has served as Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher.
Rev. Dr. Richard Hemphill
School Pastor, Board Member
Pastor Richard serves as school pastor, leads the CCA mission trips, and has been an elected board member of Cumberland Christian Academy since 1998. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1985. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies and a Doctor of Divinity from Logos Bible College and Graduate School in Jacksonville, FL.
Richard's business experience prior to entering the ministry allows him to bring to CCA not only spiritual leadership, but also a keen sense of business. He serves as Senior Pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church in Marietta.
Richard and his wife, Nancy, have been married since 1966 and have three children and four grandchildren. Their youngest son, Tim, is a 1998 CCA graduate.
Dick Skelton
Athletic Director, Board Member
Dick Skelton joined the CCA School Board in 1993, and the next year assumed the position of Athletic Director, as well as Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. At CCA, he has led an athletics program that is successful in competition while maintaining a strong emphasis on sportsmanship and Christian attitude.
A lifetime resident of Cobb County, Dick graduated from Kennesaw Junior College and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University. He served in the United States Army from 1970-71.
Dick and his wife, Patti, attend Trinity Fellowship Church where Dick serves as a Deacon. Dick's daughter, Lindsey, is a 2000 CCA graduate.
Carol Thaxton
Middle School Principal
Carol Thaxton is the Middle School Principal and has been at CCA for twelve years. She has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Kentucky, and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Education at Columbia International University.
She and her husband, Paul, serve at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church and have two grown sons, both graduates of Cumberland Christian Academy.
Gloria Howard
Elementary/Preschool Principal
The 2010-2011 school year marks Gloria's 17th year as principal at CCA. Through education, she has been leading children in the ways of our Lord for nearly 30 years.
Gloria is grateful to God for allowing her to be involved in pointing children to Him on a daily basis. She believes that being called to work with children is a blessing and privilege.
Gloria and her husband, George, raised two daughters and have six grandchildren. They are members of Woodstock First Baptist Church.
Reneè Oxendine
High School Vice Principal, Teacher
Reneè Oxendine is the assistant principal at Cumberland Christian Academy. She and her husband, Gary, have been at CCA for over 20 years and are founding teachers at the school. She has a BS in Secondary Education from Tennessee Temple University.
She and her husband attend Mableton First Baptist Church.
Sherry Campbell
School Counselor
Sherry Campbell, M.S., L.P.C., holds a M.S. degree in Counseling, a Christian Counseling Diploma, a B.S. in Psychology, and an A.A. degree. In her 20 plus years in counseling—as a Licensed Professional Counselor, GA Certified Professional School Counselor, and ACSI Professional Guidance Counselor Specialist—she has served as a mobile assessment coordinator, in-patient program director, and an individual and group therapist in private and church based counseling centers. For the last 9 years she has served in private Christian schools as a professional school counselor working at all levels, elementary, middle, and high school.
Sherry and her husband, Lee, have three children who attend CCA.
Caron Gossett
Admissions Director
Caron Gossett is the Admissions Director for CCA and has been with the school for 17 years. Having worked in our Corporate Office as an Administrative Secretary with the primary responsibility of enrollment and re-enrollment of CCA students, Caron has a broad knowledge of the history of our school and enjoys meeting each new family to introduce them to Cumberland.
She and her husband, Keith, serve at West Metro Church of God in Douglasville and have three children, two of which are CCA alumni.
Dr. Angela B. Smith
Fine Arts Director
Angela Brownell Smith serves as Fine Arts Director and teaches courses in worship, music, and photography at CCA’s high school. She is committed to leading our students to be true worshipers of Jesus Christ. Angela completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of South Carolina and Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music degrees at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She has taught at several colleges/universities including Belmont and Spelman College. She is a composer, and her music has been performed across the United States, internationally, and on public radio. She is also a published photographer.
Angela and her husband, Chandler, have two children, Abigail and Samuel, and attend Trinity Fellowship where they both serve on the worship team.
Marty Frendt
Interim High School Principal
Marty Frendt has 25 years of Christian education experience spanning 4th grade through the 12th grade. Marty has taught elementary, middle, and high school students and has experience as a middle and high school principal. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration.
Marty is married to wife, Dawn, and has one daughter, Catherine. He enjoys hiking, reading, traveling and experiencing the daily refreshment of God's Word.
