Missions Focus - haiti
January 21, 2010 Update
Thank you to all who have prayed for the Good Shepherd Church and Academy in Haiti and to those who have made donations to help with relief efforts. Liz Seese (Voice in the Wilderness) has made it into Haiti and is traveling to the Port au Prince area today. She has taken tents, medicine, water purification tablets, and some of the money we have sent to help minister to our friends at Good Shepherd.
There is also more good news. First, one of Pastor Jerome's three sons (Ruben) as well as two other boys living with Jerome have miraculously been found alive. They had thought they died in the earthquake along with Jerome's son, Joshua. Hope Academy, the newly established school, is still standing, although the food stored there was stolen. All the teachers and staff have also survived.
Finally, CCA graduate Jake Vinyard is on his way to Haiti as part of the U.S. Marine security force that is being sent to Haiti. Please continue to pray. God is at work even in the midst of disaster!
January 14, 2010 Update
The news has been filled with reports of the devastating earthquake in Haiti on Tuesday. Sadly, the schools we support there were also harmed. We know that the Good Shepherd compound has been destroyed. Two of Pastor Jerome's sons were killed as well as other students and staff. Many are still missing as our friends there struggle to find the living and the dead. It is unclear if the Hope Academy building is still standing. We do have food (rice, beans, and powdered milk) on site if clean water can be found. Liz Seese calls us daily with updates, but it is difficult even with satellite cell phones to contact people.
Many have asked if we are accepting contributions. We are, and can safely forward monetary donations through Liz Seese and A Voice in the Wilderness. This is the ministry we use to manage the $45/month teachers salaries that we pay as well as our annual Walk-a-Thon contribution. In fact, we have just sent the $10,566 tithe from our Walk-a-Thon. God's timing is perfect. We are collecting only monetary donations at this point in time.
Checks may be written to either CCA or A Voice in the Wilderness and dropped off at any campus office. If you need a tax receipt, you will need to include your name and address with the donation. CCA will forward all donations to A Voice in the Wilderness.
Please take time to pray for the people in Haiti. Also pray for the government in Haiti—that through this they will turn their hearts toward our Lord Jesus. Thank you for helping us show our friends in Haiti the love of Christ.
